Initial work for NRC update starts in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, March 18 : Initial work for updating  of tiol Registrar of Citizens (NRC) on the basis of Assam Accord, Citizenship Act of 1955 and citizen’s rule of 2003, has kicked off in the district from Tuesday under direct supervision and monitoring of the Supreme Court of India.

Addressing a press meet held at the DC’s conference room on Tuesday, District Registrar and Deputy Commissioner MS Manivann  disclosed that voters’ list had already published in February 2015 by updating the NRC of 1951 and voters’ list prior  to 24 March,1971, so that people could search and look up their linkage. He further stated that application form would be distributed to each family in their respective houses during March –April while the application form would be received by NRC help centres within the month of July.

The draft roll of NRC will be published on October 1 after proper verification of application forms from June to September this year. Manivann also stated that the claims and objection on draft roll would be taken care in October and all claims and objections would be disposed off within November and December. He said, filized updated NRC would be published on January 1, 2016.

Meanwhile, 7 circle officers, 97 gazetted officers and 1,152 officials have been appointed as Circle Registrars, local Registrars and booth level officers respectively. The Deputy Commissioner also informed the media that distribution of leaflets to each household, public meeting besides formation of five groups of mobile LRCR had been taken up as a part of the sensitization programme.

“ Four special camps will be  organized  in booth level, as per Election Commission’s instruction, for correction of me in voter’s list from April 12 to July 30 this year,” informed District Election Officer, Biswajit Phukan .

Additiol Deputy Commissioner Jogesh Baruah and district resource person of NRC, Pradip Kumar Rajkhowa were also present at the press meet.
