Inter-College Youth Festival kicks off on a colourful note at DHSK College

Dibrugarh, January 21: The Inter-College Youth Festival, 2015-2016, organized by DHSK College among the 170 affiliated colleges under Dibrugarh University, to be participated by almost 2,000 students, got under way on Thursday with the scheduled iugural programmes  being held at the premises of the college. About 1,000 students from 59 colleges of the districts of North Lakhimpur, Dhemaji , Golaghat, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Tinsukia and Dibrugarh participated in the festival.

The iugural day of the festival kicked off with the Principal of DHSK College, Dr Sasikanta Saikia, hoisting the festival flag, along with coorditor of Dibrugarh University’s Sports Department, Montu Bodo.  The secretary of the organizing committee, Professor Anta Kumar Dutta, carried out the ceremony of smriti tarpan, in memory of all martyrs. A colorful cultural procession, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of our tradition, was iugurated by president of the college governing body, Dr Chandra Kanta Gogoi. The procession was also taken out at about 8 am, from the college premises which passed through KC Gogoi Path, Tha Chariali, Phulbagan and Red Cross Road. It filly culmited at the precincts of the college.

While iugurating the Youth Festival, the Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Dr Alak Kumar Buragohain, in his concise speech, lauded the Principal and the organizing committee for bringing up such a unique thought of organizing a festival of cultural activities among the students of the various college under the University and called upon the students and youths to gear up their duty and responsibility for securing the cultural and linguistic heritage of our long-established identity.

The former president of Axam Xahitya Sabha and eminent litterateur, Dr gen Saikia, fomally released the souvenir in the iugural meeting which was presided over by  Dr Sasikanta Saikia.  The meeting was attended amongst others by the president of the governing  committee, Dr Chandrakanta Gogoi; Principal of Sibsagar Commerce College, Soumar Jyoti Mahanta; Principal of DHSK Commerce College, Khanindra  Mishra  Bhagawati, governing committee member JP Kanoi , jourlist Gautam Sharma and the participants .

To mark the festival, all total 28 plays will be staged in the drama competition, a record in the history of youth festival. On the iugural day, various listed competitions were held at six fixed venue halls of the college.

Earlier, the meeting ended with the vote of thanks being delivered by Dr Bharati Dutta.
