Dibrugarh, Oct 15:  In a major breakthrough, Dibrugarh police team headed by Additiol Superintendent Sourovjyoti Saikia, Deputy Police Superintendents (DSPs) Pradip Saikia, Bhaskar Jyoti Mohon  and  Officer  in-charge of Milan gar outpost, Purandar Baruah  busted an inter-State drug peddlers gang here and recovered 4 kg brown sugar and 1 kg heroine. They also picked up a female accomplice of the gang, Mamoni Begum and three others for interrogation.

Intertiol market value of the recovered drugs, what police sources claimed, is more than Rs 1 crore. The sources further claimed that one Saifur Ahmed of Aruchal was the kingpin of the gang who was operating his drugs business from a rented house of one Taz Uddin Ahmed of  Nizara path, Amolapatty. Taz Uddin Ahmed is the general secretary of the Dibrugarh unit of Asom Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity. Saifur alias Siddique Ali, however, is absconding.

Police earlier arrested drug kingpin of Upper Assam, Elahi Seikh on September 23, 2012 and recovered all total 500 grams drugs from his possession. The police, during anti-drug operation in the district earlier, arrested five or six drug peddlers, besides Elahi Seikh. As a part of the ongoing anti-drug drive launched by Dibrugarh Police, today’s recovery is considered as one of the biggest catch.
