International Human Rights Day observed in Tezpur

Tezpur: Human Rights Action Council Asom (Assam Chapter) organized an award ceremony on the occasion of International Human Rights Day at the Tezpur Axomiya Club premises on Monday. On this occasion, a total of 15 persons, including nine journalists, were awarded with certificates and trophies. The journalists were Anwar Ahmed, Dip Kumar Kalita, Arup Kalita, Phanider Baruah, Hemanta Nath, Pranjal Bora, Nerola Deka and others.

The award ceremony was conducted by Dr. Parashmoni Sinha, Director of Human Rights Action Council Asom. The programme was graced by Dr. Pradip Lahkar, special member of Medical Advisory Board, Plantation Worker, Goverment of Assam, Khirod Sinha, Superintendent of Dekargaon Railway Station, Mallika Sarma, panel advocate, DSLA, Nagoan, member of HRACA and others. Speaking on the occasion as a chief guest, Dr. Pradip Kumar Lahkar explained the role, composition and functioning of various human rights institutions in India. He also touched upon the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993 and explained why fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution played a crucial role in the development of a nation keeping all its citizens united in peace.
