International Labour day observed in city

SHILLONG, May 1: Along with the rest of the world, the Workers Power of Meghalaya, which is a federation of 13 plus organized as well as unorganized sector workers’ unions, in associations with TUR observed the International Labour Day in the city on Tuesday. Despite heavy downpour in the capital city, hundreds of peopled observed the International Labour Day, which was held at Madan Iewrynghep. A rally was also organized as a part of the event.
During the occasion, leaders of TUR as well as members of other workers’ organization said there is a need for the government to increase the minimum wages, compliance to legal obligations on workers’ rights such as Cl and EL leave, maternity benefit, PF and job security, among others.
