International Taekwondo competition in Silchar

Silchar: For the first time in Silchar an international Taekwondo competition will be held under the aegis of Cachar District Taekwondo Association (CDTA) and Kreeda Bharati. The competition, ‘1st India Cup Open International Championship 2018’ will start on November 16 and continue till November 18 which falls on Sunday and will be held at Indoor Stadium, India Club at Tarapur. The inaugural ceremony will begin from 11 in the morning on Friday. Participants from India, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh will take part in the competition. More than 400 participants have already registered their names.

Besides Assam, participants from Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Goa, Odisha, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu Karnataka, Maharashtra and Mizoram will also take part in this competition. Participants within the age group of 5 years to 60 years can take part in it. There will be two events, Kyorugi (full contact fighting) and Poomsae (non contact). The entry fee of the competition is Rs.3000 only. Around 500 students from various schools will assist in making the event a grand success.

The inaugural ceremony will be graced the presence of Parimal Suklabaidya, Minister for Forests, Fisheries and Excise, government of Assam. Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam, has extended his help and wishes and has provided Rs.7 lakh for the competition. Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC) has given Rs.1 lakh. MLA Dilip Kumar Paul too has provided with an amount of Rs.2 lakh.
