International Yoga Day observed across Northeast

Agartala: International Yoga Day was held at Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) in Khumulwng headquarters. Prominent among those who performed yoga asanas in separate events were Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Education and Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath, the Council of Ministers, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel, Chief Executive Member of the TTAADC Radhacharan Debbarma, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunil Deodhar, Chief Secretary Sanjeev Ranjan and Director General of Police Akhil Kumar Shukla.

Kohima, June 21: In keeping with the spirit of the ‘International Yoga Day’ observed on June 21, over 10,000 individuals from all units and formations of the Spear Corps of the Indian Army participated in mass yoga sessions at different locations including those in remote and far-flung areas. Families of soldiers also participated enthusiastically wherever present in the Spear Corps Zone. Yoga is increasingly being followed in the Indian Army as part of its regular physical training regimen.

In the event organised at Rangapahar Military Station, Dimapur, over 500 persons participated, these included officers, soldiers and their families. Lieutenant General Gopal R, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding, Spear Corps, graced the event and motivated Yoga enthusiasts of the Corps, as informed in a press release on Thursday.

Addressing the media after the function, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi sleeps for only four hours and works the rest of the day, setting an exemplary example for others.” “Today Yoga Day was observed from Gram Panchayat level to state level including all educational institutions,” said Deb, who along with his family members performs various physical exercises at his official residence daily. Imphal: The International Day of Yoga was celebrated in Manipur on Thursday with leaders, common people and students performing ‘asanas’ at several places.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, who performed yoga at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here, underlined the significance of physical and mental health for a healthy and peaceful life.

He said drugs and other intoxicants were veering the society to a dangerous direction. “All of us should strive for mental and physical health through regular yoga exercises.”

Deputy Chief Minister Y. Joykumar, who performed yoga in Sagolband, said yogic exercises were good for physical health and peace of mind.

A large number of police and CRPF personnel also performed yoga exercises in Thoubal, Tengnoupal, Bishnupur and other districts. Several educational institutes also organised yoga demonstrations. (IANS)
