It’s a nightmare to be a woman

It’s a nightmare to be a woman

The most beautiful thing a woman can wear is confidence.’

Deepika Patar Barukial

Each time a woman stands up for herself, she stands up for all women. Does it exhibit the confidence level of a woman??? We are still in a dilemma that what society exactly wants from us. In one way they are providing us the wings to fly as high as possible and in the next moment they are just dragging us down to the ground. Being in a country like India where we worship several female deities like Maa Durga, Maa Ambe, Maa Saraswati, Maa Kali and many more but in the same country we are insecure. We are like flightless birds that cannot fly instead of having their wings.

Why do women have to forfeit their dreams, their desires and their hopes every time? Every time when she walks down the gallis, mohallas, bus stops and many areas, they are confronted with lewd remarks and molestations. I may sound very gauche but having our assets (female organs) is not the state of being proud but it just creates insecurity for us. We cannot flaunt our body boldly and if we do so then we have to face bawdy comments for instance ‘Lardki haath se nikal gayi’, ‘Iska character accha nahi hain’, ‘Aisi lardki ko nahi chirdhayenge to kisko?’ etc, etc. Now, in such situations where is our equal right? What is the use of comparing male with females if you cannot provide it to us in real?

Women safety is the biggest concern in the present day situation. Indian women are found working in many sectors like banks, educational institutions, sports, space, army, police, etc. It seems like there is an unannounced competition among some mentally sick persons to rape minors.

When a girl is in her maternal home, she has to fulfil the expectations of her parents and it starts as soon as she steps into the school for the first time and the series of expectations sustain till her last breath. However, this thinking has changed a little bit but yet to go a long way to replace the old mindset of our conservative Indians. After marriage she has to meet the expectations of her in-laws. She is left with very minimal choices in her life. Neither she can wear what she wants nor can she go where she wants. ‘Samaaj kya kahenge? (What will the society say??) ‘Log kya Sochenge?’ (What will the people think?) are some of the universal questions that a lady has to answer, if she lives on her dreams.

According to a survey conducted by National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) the rape cases recorded went up to 243 from 240, and the death due to dowry case also saw a spike increasing from 14 to 19 just in the first 45 days of this year 2018. Assam, which we consider to be a place of harmony, now seems to be perilous for women because since the Sarbananda Sonowal government took charge in 2016, at least 3,009 rape cases and 17,106 cases of violence against women registered so far.

Many of the people blame social networking sites to be the reason behind such incidents. According to them easy availability of internet and smart phones with everyone, especially with illiterates, it is the only about a way to foray into a fantasy virtual world which resulted in sexual frustration and finally rape. May be this is one of the reason but my point is that there is a huge gap between verbal and real perception regarding women empowerment. The Government should be very strict enough with its law to reduce the menace of such incidents in India.

If wearing shorts, clicking photographs, uploading in the social sites are the reasons behind provoking men to indulge in such crimes then how can the recorded rape incidence of a minor, just 8 months old, is responsible for that? That could not be a reason at all; we have to broaden our views, our thinking or else we cannot move freely in our own country.

A woman is like a tea bag - you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water. So, please stop taking test of her penitence because she is the real architects of society. Let her mend the society rather compelling her to bend in the society.
