IWF selects Sambo for tiol coaching camp

ITAGAR, Jan 10: The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has selected Sambo Lapung (69 Kg) for the tiol coaching camp to be held at Sports Authority of India, Netaji Subash tiol Institute of Sports, Patiala, Punjab from Jauary 15 to 31 next in order to prepare for various intertiol senior weightlifting championships including the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

His selection came after his outstanding performance at the 68th Senior tiol Weightlifting Championship at Patiala, Punjab on December 26 last where he struck 3 Gold medals for Aruchal Pradesh.

After Jimjang Deru and Kojum Taba, Sambo is the third weightlifter belonging to Aruchal to be selected for the tiol coaching camp.

Prior to this selection, Sambo has brought many laurels for the state since 2011. He won Gold at the All India inter SAI championship at Aurangabad and Bronze in 7th Youth tiol Weightlifting Championship, held at Nirjuli (Aruchal Pradesh) in 2011. Sambo also became Youth tiol Champion by winning 3 Gold at the 8th Youth and Junior tiol Champion at 49th Junior tiol Weightlifting Championship in 2012.

In 2013 he successfully defended both his youth and junior tiol championship titles at tiol Weightlifting Championship which held at Guwahati while in the intertiol level, the weightlifter won Silver at the Commonwealth Youth Championship in Apia, Samoa in 2012.

In the same year he became the Asian Youth Champion as well as Commonwealth Youth Champion. The Asian title was achieved from 15th Asian Youth Weightlifting Championship in Doha, Qatar while the he won the Commonwealth title from the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship which was held in Peng, Malaysia.
