Jaintia headmen's body opposes bill

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, March 22: The Dorbar Ki Rangbah Shnong- Ri Jaintia, a coordition body of all Headmen of Jaintia Hills have opposed the proposed bill on Headmen. Erwin K. Syiem Sutnga, spokesman of the Headmen’s body said that requires deeper introspection and the Dorbar has many suggestions to make which requires time for deliberation and formulation of the recommendations.

The proposed bill on Headmen which has been called the Jaintia Autonomous District (Establishment of Elaka and Village and Election, Appointment, Powers, Functions and Jurisdiction of Dalloi/Sirdar and Waheh Shnong) Bill, 2015 will be introduced on March, 25.

The Dorbar Ki Rangbah Shnong- Ri Jaintia has urged the JHADC to refer the Bill to a Select Committee.

Sutnga said that the Bill was not published in an “appropriated manner”, since it was not published in the media and only displayed in the Council notice board and no public information was made for views and opinion of the general public especially the stakeholders.

The Dorbar Ki Rangbah Shnong – Ri Jaintia has also taken steps to take up the appeal against the December 10 order last year of the single bench of the Meghalaya High Court which has seriously affected the functioning of Rangbah Shnongs. Advocates VGK Kynta and SS Dey have been appointed and appearance has been entered in the appeal filed by the KHADC.
