A Correspondent

DOOMDOOMA: Chandradhar Bhuyan, Janata Party leader and a dedicated social worker of Kakapather, about 12 km away from here, died in a private hospital in Dibrugarh in the wee hours of Sunday. He was 87 and is survived by three sons, including former Transport Minister Jagadish Bhuyan, and a daughter. Born in Sanekuchi village in undivided Kamrup district, he lost his father at an early age and had to come to Tezpur first and then to Kakapather to seek his fortune. He actively participated in the freedom struggle. But after coming in contact with Bishnu Prasad Rava, he went underground for sometime as an RCPI activist and spent his days in great hardship in many places of Upper Assam. In 1950 he became a member of Communist Party of India (CPI) but left that party in 1969 and joined Janata Party. He held many district and state-level posts of the party, including the post of Secretary of Sadiya constituency.
