JB College student arrested for extortion

JORHAT, March 18: A degree third year student of the prestigious JB College of Jorhat, identified as Ridip Padun, son of Biswajit Padun of Dohabora Chuk, was apprehended by police of the Lichubari Outpost deployed in plain clothes from the LK Path area on Tuesday night after Ridip came to collect an extortion amount of Rs 7,000 from a girl identified as Jahvi Gogoi, a graduate from the same college and two years senior to the boy. Officer in Charge of Lichubari Outpost, Hemendra Sinha told The Sentinel, “The boy was picked up following a Jorhat PS case no 587/15 U/S 384. The complaint Jahvi Gogoi in her FIR had stated that the accused Ridip Padun was mentally harassing her in the pretext of editing her photo posted in the Facebook profile and was blackmailing her while threatening her to release her obscene photos in the internet. The extortion that first started from Rs 100, went up to Rs 1,000 and Rs 7,000. The accused also forced the girl to sell her gold earrings and mobile phone. We have also seized a Scooty bearing registration number AS 03 Q 0672 which the extortionist stole from another college student Bikash Dutta. Notably Bikash had earlier lodged an FIR regarding the missing scooter.”
