Silchar, Oct 7: Despite registering 35 successful delivery normal cases since its inception in the month of August 2016, Jirighat Mini Hospital under Lakhipur sub-division is functioning without a single MBBS doctor. The deliveries have taken place at the newly constructed building of the hospital. Himanku Hazarika, community health officer along with three GNMs have taken the charge of the hospital. In addition to lack of MBBS doctors, problems of electrification and water scarcity are also prevailing in the hospital. The need of a tube well can be sensed in this case as patients and staffs have to suffer a lot.

It should be mentioned here that there are no quarters for the doctors and they have to live in rented houses. Dr Y Kishore Singh, sub-divisiol medical officer visited the hospital on the last week of September. He advised the staff to take good care of the patients. In terms of medicine and saline, there are plenty of them in the hospital. S Viswathan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner has also visited the hospital. District administration and Lakhipur health department are happy with the functioning of the hospital. The ASHA workers, parents, guardians and family members of all would-be pregnt women have been asked to give birth to their babies at this hospital instead of their homes.

Another problem that needs to be resolved at the earliest is that some persons have captured the boundary of the hospital and this is causing a bit trouble for the authorities. However, request for building quarters have been made. The condition of the road that leads to the hospital is in a deplorable condition and needs to be repaired soon. The authorities have been requested to look into the matter.
