J&K Encounter: Counter-Ops Continue in Baramulla as Two JeM Militants Shot Dead, Security Forces Suffer 8 Injuries

Jammu and Kashmir: In a major counter-insurgency retaliation, the Security Forces killed to two Jaish-e-Mohammed militants in an operation against the Islamic terror operatives who were holed up in a forest area in Jammu’s Katra.

Reportedly, there has also been eight injuries, some of them severe, sustained by the security personnel of the CRPF and Jammu and Kasmir Police

According to Police sources, five CRPF personnel and three policemen, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohan Lal, was injured during the counter-insurgency operation in the area. Police informed that the injured personnel was admitted to the Narayana hospital in Katra area.

It may be mentioned that on September 12 last, three militants abode a truck fled into the forests after they were intercepted on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway on September 12 morning. The Security forces in a bid to foil any untoward terror attacks, they had sealed the area and launched a combing operation with local schools remaining closed to avoid any collateral damage during the operation.

In a separate incident in Jammu and Kashmir, two militants were gunned down by security forces in Sopore under Baramulla District.

Speaking to the Media Persons, an Army spokesman informed that the two militants were killed in the operation at Taliyan Mohalla area of Arampora, Sopore. “A gunfight broke out after the hiding militants lobbed a grenade and fired upon the search party,” said local police sources.

Providing additional information on the encounter, Police said the two militants who were encountered belonged to a foreign terror outfit and were identified as Jaish-e-Muhammad’s Ali alias Athar and Zia-ur-Rehman, both from Pakistan.

Police also informed that the deceased terrorist Ali was the mastermind behind the Sopore IED blast in which four policemen were martyred earlier this year.

Meanwhile, there has been heavy security deployed in the region and combing operations are still on. Security Forces are scanning the area with hi-tech defense gadgets like drones and other radars in a bid to destroy all possible hideouts of any foreign insurgents including the notorious Jaish-e-Mohammed.
