JMP opposes Citizenship Bill, emphasizes women empowerment

TINSUKIA, June 24: The Jatiyabadi Mahila Parishad (JMP), a sister organization of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Parishad (AJYP), in a public meeting at Hijuguri ITI Auditorium, constituted the Bojaltoli Neogchuk branch of Tinsukia district on Sunday under the chairpersonship of social worker Amiya Bordoloi. The committee later adopted several resolutions pertaining to local issues.

The newly-constituted committee unanimously selected Annada Neog as chairperson and Rumee Dutta (Neog) as general secretary. The other members are Geetanjali Neog (assistant secretary), Rashmi Rekha Phukan (organizational secretary), Reena Neog (finance secretary), besides 18 other general members. The committee was constituted in presence of Pranjal Pratim Neog and Nilam Sanjeeb Gogoi, general secretary and vice-president respectively of Tinsukia district committee of AJYP.

The meeting demanded repair of the deplorable condition of Neogchuk Road under ward no. 4 and the road connecting to Manideep and Holy Child School. It has also sought immediate intervention of the local MLA. While discussing gender issues in threadbare, the meeting decided to protest against atrocities on women and to give more teeth to women empowerment. Strongly opposing the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the meeting urged upon the authorities concerned to ensure non-inclusion of foreigners’ names in the ongoing NRC updating exercises, stated a press release of JMP.
