'Job for locals' stir against Lepetkatta BCPL

DIBRUGARH, March 19: The Lepetkatta BCPL Local Unemployment Suraksha Samity (LBCPLLUSS) renewed their stir on Thursday by observing dhar in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, demanding cent per cent appointment of local youths in all technical and non-technical categories and to fulfil their seven- point charter of demands. The Samity members later submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner (DC).

The DC assured the agitating members that he would look into their grievances and try to solve them within 15 days.

The other demands of the LBCPLLUSS are to allot 50 per cent petty jobs like supply of materials, statiories and other forms of small contracts to the members of the Samity, keep the areas free from probable emission from BCPL and arrangements to be made for pollution-free atmosphere, steps to be taken for setting up a 50-bedded state-of-the art hospital  for local residents of nearby areas, necessary arrangement to be made to supply free electricity to people living  in 2 km periphery  of BCPL, and to take steps for awarding scholarship to the educated local youths and students of poor families.

In a press communiqué, the members asserted that they would suspend their agitatiol programme for another 15 days but vouched to intensify their agitation if the authority failed to concede with their demands within the specified period.
