‘Joint exploration in South Chi Sea legal’

Manila, Jan 5: A Philippine official on Thursday said that the potential joint exploration of the South Chi Sea between Manila and Beijing is legal and constitutiol. “The idea of coming to mutual agreement over tural resources is constitutiol and has been beneficial in the past,” Harry Roque, member of the 17th Congress of the Philippines, said in a statement. He added: “Article XII, Section 2 of the 1987 Constitution provides that the President may enter into agreements with foreign-owned cooperations involving either technical or fincial assistance for large-scale exploration, development, and utilization of minerals, petroleum, and other mineral oils according to the general terms and conditions provided by law, based on real contributions to the economic growth and general welfare of the country.” (IANS)
