Joint mock drill by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) &  hospital staff in Karimganj

Karimganj, July 7: An awareness programme on Disaster Management was conducted by Makunda Christian Hospital Karimganj Assam on 7th July’ 2018 for developing awareness on disaster management and co-ordination among the various agencies in disaster response. The programme was followed by a joint mock drill on earthquake & fire situation. A team of 20 NDRF personnel participated in the programme, a release stated .

Dr Roshini Mary Koshy Makunda Assistant superintendent Director Christian Hospital inaugurated the occasion. Dr David Paul, Dr Gnna Seelan and Dr Samuel Surender Singh of Makunda Christian Hospital co-ordinated the event.

The drill was conducted as per the international standards and was focused on safe-patient evacuation in case of an emergency. Hospital staff was also given hands-on training in case of an emergency or disaster. This exercise was aimed at training the hospital staff in practical ways to respond during a crisis, and how to evacuate from dangerous areas and retain order and security.

The NDRF and hospital staff jointly displayed amazing skills during mock drill, they rescued/evacuated 10 victims placed under various simulated scenarios. The equipments and man power used in the exercise played a crucial role in the rescue operations. This mock drill showed preparedness of the concerned staff and officers, especially during such accidents and calamities. Such type of programme will definitely help both Hospital staff and NDRF teams to boost their self confidence during such rescue and relief operations. Around 355 personnel comprising doctors and staff of the hospital, volunteers, media persons and local public participated in the joint mock drill. The exercise concluded with a note to organize more such exercise in future for effective response so as to save precious human lives. Role of the NDRF, the hospital authority and other agencies in the joint mock exercise was applauded by all, the release added.
