Joint mock drill on earthquake held in Mizoram

aizawl, Feb 24: A State level joint mock drill on earthquake disaster with participation of district stakeholders as well as State stakeholders was organised in Lunglei district in Mizoram today. 1st BN NDRF took active participation and assisted ASDMA in planning and co-ordition at the initial stage and played a leading role during mock drill, a press release stated.

NDRF, SDRF, civil defence, Fire Service, police, volunteers, NYK, BSF, Assam Rifles and members from the community and NGOs participated in the exercise.

NDRF rescuers during the exercise used various extrication methods like rope rescue, high rise rescue and victim stabilization after triage of victims following the disaster site safety plan.

On this occasion Shivaji Singh, Senior Consultant of NDRF said, “These exercises ensure activation and prompt response of all stake holders in a district and such frequent mock drills also make the district response system more effective and result oriented at the time of actual disaster. Mock drills provide suitable platform and sustaible mechanism for state and central authorities for synchronization and rapid employment of rescuers at state level. These exercises should be frequently conducted in every district as the whole NE region falls under high risk zone in terms of earthquake.” Approximately 250 individuals of district administration, volunteers, NGOs and local public were involved in the joint mock drill, after the exercise de-briefing session was done in which role of NDRF was highly appreciated by huge gathering of local public civil administration in successfully conducting the joint mock drill, the release stated.
