JORHAT, March 15: The district administration of Jorhat is all set to organize mami Brahmaputra 2017 in the district from March 31 with a five-day long programme.
Addressing a press conference at the DC’s conference hall here on Wednesday, Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal said, “Preparations are on in full swing to host mami Brahmaputra 2017 in the district. The event will be organized in different parts of Jorhat like Jhanjimukh, Jorhat District Sports Association playground and Jorhat Planetarium. It is scheduled to start at Kokilamukh located on the outskirts of Jorhat town.”
He added, “Different committees with government officials, representatives of social organizations, eminent persolities, artists, public leaders and media persons have been formed in the district to ensure a grand success of this event. The district administration has already formed exhibition committee, infrastructure committee, cultural committee, protocol committee, food and accommodation committee and medial committee. It has also constructed two public toilets at Neematighat and Kokilamukh and a road at Kokilamukh for the event.”
The Assam Government is planning to host the biggest river festival in India- mami Brahmaputra, 2017 in 21 districts of the State with a five-day long programme from March 31 to April 4. The government is organizing this mega event for the first time to showcase the State’s unique culture, traditions, tural resources, art and heritage across the globe.
The five-day long programme will comprise cultural programmes, yoga, boat racing, semirs and business meets, traditiol sports, fashion show, quiz competition, drawing competition, exhibition of both traditiol handloom and handicraft products along with delicious local cuisine. The district administration has appealed the army, Air Force and vy to join in the exhibition and they have also consented to take part in the event.
