Jorhat District Library auditorium vandalized

Jorhat, March 10: The District Librarian of Jorhat, who is also the custodian of the Pitambar Dev Goswami District Library Auditorium, lodged an FIR against Mithila Sanskritic Samany Samittee in Jorhat on Monday for destroying public property at the District Library Auditorium during a Holi function held on March 8. In his FIR, the District Librarian alleged, "Some anti-social and indisciplined youths destroyed public property at the District Library Auditorium during a Holi function organized by the Mithila Sanskritic Samany Samittee." The librarian has sought an enquiry along with punishment and compensation for the damaged items. Talking to The Sentinel, Librarian Subodh Chandra Sarma said, "I believe anti-social elements opposed to the Mithila Sanskritic Samany Samittee and with an intention to malign the image of the socio-cultural organization indulged in mass vandalism leading to the destruction of chairs, ceiling boards and furniture in the last room of the hall intended for creating echo. The Samittee has also lodged an FIR in this connection alleging presence of hooligans in the programme on March 8 and has also agreed to pay full compensation for the damaged items."
