Jorhat incident becomes wake-up call for Sivasagar administration

From a Correspondent

JOYSAGAR, Feb 13: After the recent shocking incident in Jorhat incident where college girl students were subjected to eve-teasing, the Sivasagar district administration and district police authorities have become alert. Frequent complaints of eve-teasing and harassment made by young girls and women of the town in the past few months have come to light. Conscious citizens of historic Sivasagar often complain against the role of police in such issues as the district police allegedly do not take any stringent measures to ensure safety of women.  The women cell of Sivasagar Police is still not fully prepared and the police machinery has to be properly modernized to deal with such incidents.

Many groups of unruly youths are seen in front of girls’ schools and colleges and they have been harassing the students since a long time but neither the educatiol institutions nor the police come forward to protect the students and to take action against such youths. This has become a cause of grave concern among the conscious circle of people of Sivasagar.
