Jorhat lawyers allege multi–crore job scam

Jorhat, January 2: Noted advocate Rintu Goswami today alleged that a multi crore scam was going on in the health department in the district at the behest of Jorhat MLA Ra Goswami, Deputy Commissioner Solanki Vishal Vasant, a section of electronic media jourlists and a few ‘fake’ jourlists.

Addressing a press conference here, Goswami said, “At the onset, we would like to disclose that after filing an RTI seeking copies of the report submitted by a 12–member screening committee constituted by the government under ADC (Health) Bubul Lekharu to find out the number of fake workers in the grade 3 & 4 of the health department, it has come to the light that seven health department officials – Mr. A Rahim, District Malaria Officer, Gunu Kalita, UDA at the Joint Director Health Service, Sushil Dutta, Head Assistant, Mala Phukan, LDA, Md. Siddique, the then accountant, Prabhat Saikia, Bill Clerk and Lakhyath Pegu, UDA under the SDM & HO (HQ) Majuli had developed an alleged network to facilitate the scam.”

“This is not our saying… but it has been reported by the screening committee to the government. Moreover, one jourlist of a prominent electronic channel had additiolly inducted seven of his family members,” Goswami said.

Rintu Goswami, further added, “Unfortutely, the present Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, who was otherwise thought to be a young and dymic IAS officer, has so far miserably failed to bring the culprits to book even after assuring us about an immediate action months back. And this, the DC is doing either at the behest of political pressure from Jorhat MLA Ra Goswami or he has a nexus with the alleged perpetrators of the scam. Otherwise, we fail to understand what’s taking the DC to act? Moreover, the otherwise vocal MLA of Jorhat who raised the issue of adulterated milk in the assembly is keeping quiet. We also have video footage of an alleged meeting of certain unscrupulous jourlists and a gang of fake jourlists with health officials and Congress touts in a bar just opposite the Doss & Co and involving in large scale money transactions in an effort to keep the health scam under the table. Not only this on several occasions, we have been offered Rs 20 to 25 lakh to keep silent or otherwise threatened with police action or other dire consequences”.

Advocate Gautam Borah, the RTI applicant said, “It is rather a shameful act to see that what was the work of the Deputy Commissioner as the titular head of all departments has been done by a less prominent but efficient Dr Anup Kumar Bordoloi. I feel the DC taking responsibility of his failure should resign from his post or else open gates of all departments and the treasury office under the same modus operandi to all the educated unemployed youths of Assam to loot government money and earn a fortune”.

Advocate Jiban Mohon Das said, “In the present wave of corruption, it seems that the DCs have been reduced to agents of the Congress from their actual role of being public servants”. Incidentally, Jiban Mohon Das, holds an executive portfolio in the BJP’s District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee and is entrusted to look after the utilisation of funds under different government schemes like NRHM which is under the purview of the Central government in New Delhi.

Also present in today’s press meet were BJP State secretary Santanu Pujari, Tea wing leader Ramani Tanti, Mahendra Prashad and RTI activist Jayanta Borkotoky.

They said they would write to the Prime Minister seeking a CBI inquiry into the scam.
