Jorhat Municipality Board issues notice to close down Domino's Pizza outlet

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, July 8: The Jorhat Municipality Board (JMB) has immediately ordered the closure of the newly open Domino's Pizza outlet situated in KB Road area of Jorhat for failing to obtain the Board’s permission to carry out business in Jorhat on Wednesday.

Sources at the JMB confirmed about the closure notice issued to the world famous brand Domino’s Pizza and that the business establishment will have to down the shutters until clearance is granted by the JMB. Sources at the Jorhat Traffic Police branch also informed about Domino’s Pizza not adhering to traffic rules and ever since the opening of the outlet on June 6, the KB Road has witnessed heavy vehicular srl, especially during the evening hours, thus affecting normal traffic movement and pedestrian movement in the footpath along Domino’s Pizza which is otherwise used for parking of the delivery bikes of the establishment.

Gupesh Roy, Mager of the Domino’s Pizza, while talking to The Sentinel said, “The decision is rather unfortute but we had applied for the permission prior to our opening on June 6 but we were misguided by a section of JMB staff who assured us of getting the permission done within a month. Now it’s almost one month from the date of opening and we have been doing pretty good business.”

However, it has been learnt that the ongoing tussle between the ruling Congress and the BJP-led JMB board is behind the issue of the closure notice. The building housing Domino’s Pizza belongs to a noted businessman turned Congressman.
