Jorhat Police arrests 55-year old man for rape

JORHAT, May 22: Jorhat Police arrested a 55-year old man on rape charges on Monday. The accused has been identified as rayan Das, resident of Kamalabaria under Lichubari police out-post. A case has been registered, against case number 1060/17 in Jorhat Sadar police station. According to police sources, rayan Das allegedly raped a 10-year girl in her house when no family member was present. The victim told her mother about the incident on Sunday but the incident had taken place about 10 days ago.

The accused had threatened the victim against telling anyone about it but when she developed some interl problems, she decided to tell her mother about it.  The family members of the victim lodged an FIR in Jorhat Sadar police station. After that, police arrested rayan  from his rented house at Atila Gaon in Jorhat town area. Pradip Kalita, officer in-charge of Jorhat Sadar police station said that the accused was well known to the victim’s family.

On  the other hand, a girl student of Jorhat Blind School alleged that she was molested by teacher Masfiq Ahmed Hazarika. She gave a written complaint to the Principal of the school. Principal Sangeeta Borthakur assured to enquire into the matter.  The school authority issued a showcause notice to Ahmed and asked him to reply within May 23. Pradip Kalita, officer in-charge of Jorhat police station, said that the school magement had not given any complaint in this case.
