From a Correspondent

JORHAT, July 16: The Jorhat police on Thursday, based on an FIR lodged on behalf of M/s Kamakhya Diagnostic Centre having a laboratory and pathological lab in the Rupahi-Ali area of Jorhat, arrested two youths identified as Jibo Bora and Bidyut Das for allegedly furnishing fake blood and other pathological report to the patients at a Xerox and DTP shop situated near the Bisturaam Barua Hall market in the busy AT Road.

Police sources informed about the duo presenting the fake reports to the patients who were mostly from poor economic background and less educated. The modus operandi was to first collect the biological samples from the patients at M/s Kamakhya Diagnostics and later refer them to the Xerox and DTP shop for collection of the reports. Incidentally Jibo Bora, the main kingpin worked as a laboratory assistant at M/s Kamakhya Diagnostics while Bidyut Das looked after the marketing side. Because of their access to the pathological centre the duo took away the origil pads of the clinic and later coloured Xerox the copies and by using fake stamps that even included the doctor’s sigture, forged the documents and gave them the shape of medical report without any actual investigation and examition of the samples, thus playing with the lives of many. Interestingly, the market is a few metres away from the office of the Superintendent of Police, Jorhat.

Now the whole matter came to the light after a woman who too gave her blood sample at the clinical laboratory came to collect the report from the DTP centre. Everything was fine until the woman went back to show the report to the actual doctor at the diagnostic centre who identified the fraud immediately. The police launched an operation that led to the arrest of Jibo Bora and based on his confession, police picked up Bidyut from his residence at Borigaon. Till the filing of the report the two were being interrogated to ascertain the involvement of others in executing this racket.
