Jorhat Police takes out rally against drug abuse, illicit trafficking

Jorhat, June 29: Jorhat Police took out a public awareness rally against the use of drugs and illicit trafficking at the heart of Jorhat town to mark the Intertiol Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Wednesday.

Intertiol Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed on June 26. Assam Police issued a directive to all police stations in the State to organize awareness programmes with a week-long programme.

“Our department has issued a direction to every police station to take up a week-long awareness programme against drug abuse and illicit trafficking from June 26 and accordingly we have been taking up a series of programmes here. We have already organized an awareness meeting at JB College on June 27 on the occasion,” said Jorhat Additiol Superintendent of Police (Head Quarter), Gunendra Deka.  He added their group comprised over 200 participants. They started their rally at Jorhat Sadar police station and passed  through places like AT Road, Bisturam Baruah Hall, Gar Ali, Gitarthi point and KB Road. They also shouted slogans against the use of drugs and illicit trafficking to make the people aware about it.

Almost all police personnel, from constables to the rank of Additiol Superintendent of Police, including the traffic branch officials, village defense party of Jorhat Sadar police station, took part in the programme.
