Jourlist, Sivasagar AASU unit lodge counter FIRs

JOYSAGAR, Feb 15: In relation to an incident that took place in the historic Jerenga Pathar of Sivasagar during AXX’s centery special session between Sivasagar district AASU unit and a media person of a local electronic media channel, both parties lodged an FIR in the local police station.

On February 12 at Jerenga Pathar during AXX’s centery session programmes, there were allegedly arguments between some visitors and Sivasagar district AASU unit members regarding entry into the exhibition pandal in the evening. When this situation took a serious turn, an electronic media reporter from zira rushed to the spot and tried to capture the happenings on his mobile phone. Sivasagar district AASU general secretary Samiran Phukan and some of his colleagues allegedly spoke harshly with the reporter and also damaged his mobile phone. The reporter Pradip Hazarika also alleged that AASU general secretary Phukan physically assaulted him in front of the visitors and threatened him.

After the incident, on February 13, reporter Hazarika lodged an FIR against Sivasagar district AASU unit at Simaluguri PS. Following this, Sivasagar district AASU unit also lodged an FIR against the reporter in Sivasagar Sadar PS on Wednesday. Simaluguri police has transferred the reporter’s case to the Sivasagar PS as the legal jurisdiction of the incident was under Sivasagar PS. Sivasagar Police have registered two different cases of both the complaints under case no-118/17 for the reporter and 122/17 for the AASU unit.  

A protest meeting was also held at zira town on Tuesday which was presided over by senior jourlist Bulu Chetia to condemn the alleged misdeeds of AASU unit of Sivasagar.
