Journo team calls on Sonowal, presses for fulfillment of demands

Dibrugarh, Oct 23: The members of Dibrugarh District Jourlist Association (DDJA) and Greater Dibrugarh Press Club (GDPC) on Monday jointly called upon Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal and submitted a 14-point memorandum to him that incorporated the primary demand for construction of Jourlist Bhawan and Jourlists’ Residential Colony.
 A team headed by DDJA president Bipin Sarmah, secretary Monjit Bora and general secretary of GDPC, Ratul Buragohain, while interacting with the Chief Minister , advocated the fulfillment of the long-pending demand of  building a modern structure on the land owned by DDJA in Dibrugarh town. The demand for a mini auditorium with a separate office having all the necessary facilities, including a commercial shopping establishment, was also placed before Sonowal.
The jourlist group through the memorandum also pressed for fulfillment of other demands like proposal for setting up of residential colony for the jourlists; necessary steps to implement the recommendations of the Majithia Committee as per the directives of the Supreme Court of India; health insurance for jourlists; a High Court Bench for Dibrugarh and reconstruction of the road of NH-37.
Earlier, Sarbanda Sonowal was felicitated by the members of GDPC and was presented with a citation of the 5th biennial convention and Souvenir, in presence of adviser of DDJA, Rajib Buragohain , Manoranjan Hazarika , Ratan Hazarika , assistant secretary of GDPC , Homen Phukan and others.
