JSM threatens legal action

From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, March 28: The Jajati Suraksha Manch (JSM) has warned to approach the court for protecting the rights of the tribal people guaranteed in the Constitution, alleging that some of the non-Bodo and non-Rabha candidates had been allowed to contest BTC election by procuring ST certificates of Boro-Kacharis and Rabhas. Ashok Kumar Brahma, secretary of JSM and advisor Jaklal Basumatary in a press release stated that a person receiving ST certificate as Boro or Rabha, that too by using titles of Das, Deka, Sarania, Saikia, Hazarika was doing fraud and cheating  the Boro or Rabha tribal communities. The JSM expressed deep anguish over the decision to allow some non-ST candidates to contest in ST reserve constituencies. The JSM leaders stated that no authority could convert the non-Boro and non-Rabha people to Boro or Rabha community people using ST certificates. “It violates the constitutiol (Scheduled Tribe) order, 1950, as amended till date and violate grossly the provision of article 342 (1), (2) of the Constitution”, they stated. The JSM also blamed squarely the senior Bodo political leaders and leaders of Bodo organizations for remaining indifferent to this alleged exploitation of constitutiol rights of the Bodo community.
