Judima Festival gets underway at Haflong

Haflong, Jan 23: Senior jourlist Haider Hussain on Saturday iugurated the two-day Judima festival at Dibarai High School ground here in presence of a huge gathering.  

The Judima Festival is being organized for popularizing Judima and to draw attention of the tourists.

Events like trekking, home stay, angling, cycling and sightseeing followed by rock concerts are the added attractions of the festival. The two-day Judima festival is being organized by the youth association for development and empowerment in collaboration with the Dibarai Mahila Samity.

Jourlist Hussain attending the function as chief quest expressed his concern over the government negligence toward the district of Dima Hasao which according to him is having tremendous prospects of tourism.

He could not understand as to why this hill district of Assam and also being the abode of several tribes and non tribes living together since time immemorial did not get due weightage in terms of development.

He said that if the state government would have developed the roads with proper connectivity twenty years back then the socio-economic condition of the Dima Hasao district would have been much better.

Hussain said that there had been dearth of good leaders, intellectuals and lack of farsightedness.

Now, the young generation coming forward for the development and this is a good sign. He while appreciating the organizers for their efforts appealed all the people to come forward and to extend their helping hand to these striving youths. “Let this Judima Festival be the beginning of the endeavor for the development of this district,” he said.

Dr Subal Maibangsa, chairman, Youth Association for Development and Empowerment (YADEM) in his welcome speech rrated the concept of the Judima Festival while requesting all the participants to avail the opportunity.

Niranjan Hojai, CEM, NCHAC said such festival to be organized in other places of the district also.

Ihuing Pame, EM, NCHAC in speech appreciated the organizer of the festival and assured that the NCHAC would extend to hold such festival to promote tourism in near future in a bigger way.    The iugural programme was also attended by Brig S. Viswasrao, Col. R K Sing, 43 AR, Danjay Parshural Ghawat, SP, Dima Hasao, Kumud Kemprai, chairman, Dibarai Village Committee, Doleswari Hakmosa, president, Dibarai Mahila Samity.
