Jumbos wreak havoc in Goalpara

Goalpara, July 28: In continuation with its rampage, a herd of wild elephant on Wednesday night entered in search of food into the several houses of Maryam ga villages under Goalpara range forest. The herd after getting inside the houses of Kalam, Raju Ali, Imdadul Islam, Asrof Ali, Hamid Ali, Lalchand and Indira,  ate up rice, pulses and other foods and vegetables. The jumbos damaged the houses.  
According to the information received from the forest officials, the herd came from the neighboring Rakhyasini reserve forest. They regularly visit adjacent villages like Futuripara, Moijonga, Dhoptola, Nicinta, Goraimari in search of food. It may be mentioned that the conflict between man and elephant is posing a threat in the district and every year, several people lose their lives and properties in the conflict. This year also the jumbos have been targeting the areas nearby the reserve forests.
