KADF to fight for the rights of indigenous people: Rongphar

From a Correspondent

HAMREN, May 23: In the latest political development in Karbi Anglong, leaders of the newly-formed Karbi Anglong Democratic Forum (KADF) said that the former CEM had lied to them in matters relating to allotment of party tickets to contest from the BJP party recently. This was stated during a press conference held at District Press Club in Diphu recently.

KADF leaders who were present at the press conference included former EM and convener Surjya Rongphar, former EM and convener D. Uphing Maslai, former EM JC Pathak, former EM Prodip Singr, former Handloom and Textile chairperson Kadom Terangpi and Nilip Block former BRCC chairman Richard Tokbi, among others.

Speaking to local media persons, Surjya Rongphar, who will be contesting from Deopani MAC constituency, said that the tiol parties had consistently ignored the wishes and dreams of the people in the district. “It is obvious that the rights of the indigenous people are not a priority for  these tiol parties. Therefore, it has become necessary for the KADF to fight for the rights of the people in Karbi Anglong by contesting in the KAAC election,” said Rongphar.

“The KADF leaders were deaf, blind and mum when they were with the tiol parties and as KAAC election is nearing, they are trying to woo the voters by promising to empower the Sixth Schedule and create recruitment board under KAAC,” said a section of citizens.
