FROM A CORRESPONDENT

KALAIGAON, March 21: Activists of Kalaigaon Anchalik committee of All Assam Minority Students’ Union (AAMSU) staged a dhar on Saturday in front of Kalaigaon Police Station in protest against alleged corruption in Kalaigaon Development Block. Abdul Khalek, secretary of Kalaigaon AAMSU, alleged that BDO Rangalal Sinha along with MCLA Jagadish Sarkar had misappropriated a large chunk of fund under IAY scheme in Kalaigaon Development Block. BDO Rangalal Sinha was arrested on March 13. He is now in Udalguri Jail. However, Khalek said that Jagadish Sarkar had not been arrested by the police till now. Sarkar has been nomited as a BPF candidate from Mudaibari territorial constituency for the upcoming BTC polls, so police have not been able to arrest him because of his political clout, alleged Khalek. The activists also submitted a memorandum to the Circle Officer of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle demanding necessary action in this regard.
