Silchar, April 27: The block development officer of Kalain Block in Cachar district, Anupam Das, has allegedly got a ransom call from the banned outfit ULFA recently. Das registered a complaint with the Sadar police station here yesterday alleging a ransom call was received on April 24 by him from the ULFA demanding Rs.5 lakh. The caller identified herself as Drishti Rajkhowa, fince secretary of ULFA. The police registered the case under Sections 387 of the IPC. As the ULFA has a record of usually demanding much higher amounts at the ransom from time to time, the police suspect that the caller may not be from ULFA and are suspecting it as a case of hoax call made by other antisocial elements. The police assured Anupam Das of investigating the matter thoroughly. The incident has also triggered the discussion among the people about the presence of ULFA in Barak valley.
