Kalakshetra workers stage dhar

GUWAHATI, Feb 16: The Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakhetra Karmachari Santha (SSKKS) staged dhar in front of the entrance gate of Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakhetra (SSK) in support of their various demands.

SSKKS president Nilkanta Rohang said the press today: “The government has not taken any steps for the regularization of the 106 workers of the SSK, despite  many requests. Barring 16 of the 106 workers, the rest were appointed in the SSK as casual workers. They have been working for the last 17 years. The remunerations of the workers have to collected from the gate entry income, because an amount of Rs 18 lakh which the government releases, is not enough for the maintence of the whole project. We, therefore, staged this dhar in support of our demands.”

The dhar was, however, withdrawn after a few hours with the Cultural Affairs Commissioner Pritam Saikia assuring them of taking steps on three main demands within four days in the general meeting slated to be held soon. The meeting will be chaired by the Chief Minister.
