Kamakhya prepares for Ambubachi Mela

GUWAHATI, June 9: The Kamrup (metro) district administration will put in place a slew of measures to ensure that the Ambubachi Mela at the Kamakhya temple passes off smoothly.

Lakhs of devotees from across the country arrive here every monsoon during the mela.

Like the previous years, this time, too, the district administration will made arrangements for food and board for the devotees, many of who will start arriving here a few days ahead of the mela.

In this regard, a meeting was held at the guest house of the temple premises. The meeting, which was presided over by Kamrup (M) DC M Angamuthu, was attended by top police officials besides the officials of from PWD, GMC, PHE and Transport department. The members from Bordeuri Samaj were also present in the meeting.

Kamrup (M) DC Angamuthu has instructed all the departments to complete their respective preparation work by June 19.

The district administration will set up camps for the devotees at Soram High School play ground, Maligaon Railway Station, Panduth Dewalaya besides atop Nilachal hills.

The DC has instructed GMC to provide adequate water round the clock on the premises of the Kamakhya temple during the Ambubachi Mela.  The administration will deploy adequate numbers of security personnel on the temple premises.
