HAMREN, Oct 21: Karbi Farmer Association (KFA) president Ratan Terang and United Karbi Students’ Association (UKSA) president Samsing Hanse said that a section of leaders of certain organizations who are demanding ST status sometime called themselves tribal and sometime non-tribal which creates confusion.
“This kind of approach is very unfortute and it should be stopped,” they said.
The indigenous tribal people’s struggle for the protection of their land and political right that granted to them in the Six Schedule of the Constitution of India should not be interfered by the general communities, they said.
Before formation of the Karbi Anglong District Council, the indigenous peoples were struggle for the protection of their land and political rights which are not mean to be Tribal and Non tribal, they added.
“The chief convener of Non Tribal Protection Forum Anill Topno, who belongs to Adivasi community, should clarify whether he fights for tribal or non-tribal?” they questioned. They also demanded the KAAC to constitute a probe panel to inquire into case of issuing land pattas to non-tribal.
