Karimganj College students irked at erroneous results by AU

Silchar, April 11: Publication of erroneous results of semesters and fil examitions by Assam University has become a rule rather than exception. After the publication of results, there are lots of complaints in respect of the results as well as marksheets. The students of Karimganj College irked at the irregularities in the results of odd semester 2017 on Wednesday met the principal Dr. Ramanuj Chakraborty and expressed their deep anguish at the state of affairs. They submitted a memorandum to him addressed to the Vice Chancellor of Assam University in order to make the authorities concerned aware of the inconvenience faced by the students due to publication of faulty results.

Through the memorandum, the students under the banner of Karimganj College Students’ Union demanded of the Vice Chancellor immediate steps to rectify the irregularities in the results of odd semester 2017. They also insisted on thorough investigation to find out why such mistakes should recur in every semester examition. Students pay the requisite fees for appearing in the examition. It therefore absolves on the Assam University authority to rectify the anomalies creeping in examition sheets which have to be corrected free of cost within 15 days. Another problem faced by the students is the abnormal delay in the publication of results which takes more than two months. But, as a rule, results have to be walled up within 45 days of the conduct of examitions.

Delayed publication of results has serious ramification as the students aspiring for higher education in better universities or centres of excellence find their prospect blocked. By the time results are out, outside universities have completed all the admission formalities. The memorandum has been appended with marksheets and admit cards which are full of errors and mistakes which are a bad reflection on the functioning of a Central University. The students have the expectation that the Vice Chancellor would consider the matter raised with all seriousness and ensure that the fair me and image of a Central University is not further tarnished. The Students’ Union has at the same time cautioned if these continue to be repeated, the only option left for them would be to go for agitation. It is to be recollected, some days back, students of different colleges on the issue of erroneous publication of results staged a protest demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar. They raised voices against indiscrimite discrepancies in the marksheets of Three Year Degree course and random marking system. One cannot but look in wonder at the way marks have been awarded against the subjects even in case of a meritorious student who has obtained zero. The anomalies are numerous and speak of the wayward functioning of the examition department. A glaring example of the carelessness of the examition department can be given from the following. More than 65% students failed to score the pass mark in subjects like Fincial Accounting, English, Mathematics and Business Organization among others.
