SIVASAGAR, February 3: The government hospital at zira in Sivasagar district is in a poor state as it not only lacks important medicines, but also doctors. In spite of several memoranda submitted to the administration, it has failed to address the issues plaguing the hospital.

Karmashree Hiteswar Saikia Civil Hospital, located at Ligiripukhuri, zira, was catering to the needs of the people of zira subdivision and its neighbouring areas.

With the increase in population, there has been a drastic increase in the number of patients visiting the hospital. The residents of the region are dependent on the hospital for delivery, surgery, and other minor ailments. The patients especially depend on the services of gynecologist, specialist doctors, lab technician, orthopedic surgeon and pediatrician. Unfortutely, this hospital is facing acute shortage of doctors.

Of late, transfer order has come out for the gynecologist Dr Mukunda Rabha who was serving in the hospital. In this regard, a delegation of Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association, Sivasagar district committee led by its president Suresh Tanti and secretary Sumit Tanti met the Additiol Deputy Commissioner (Health), Sivasagar, Hemkanta Pegu and submitted a memorandum demanding stay order of the gynecologist.

After submitting the memorandum, they told The Sentinel that as many as 100 to 150 deliveries take place in the hospital in a month.  “Gynecologist Dr Mukunda Rabha has been a great help for the poor patients. If he is transferred from this hospital, patients will suffer,” they said.

They further said the hospital not only lacked important medicines but was also facing uvailability of an eye specialist, orthopedic surgeon and pediatrician.

“We have been demanding repeatedly for these. However, the demands have not been fulfilled so far,” they said.
