Karnataka beat Assam in Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament

GUWAHATI: Two good knocks from Wasiqur Rahman and Rajjakuddin Ahmed went in vain as Assam lost to Karnataka by 15 runs in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament held in Cuttack today.

Chasing 170 runs to win Assam made worst start losing opener Riyan Parag before opening the account. It was just the beginning as Assam quickly reduced to 4-20 courtesy to poor batting by Rishav Das (8), Sivsankar Roy (0) and captain Amit Sinha (1).

But Wasiqur and Rajjakuddin played two terrific knocks and almost took Assam to the victory. But once Wasiqur Rahman returned on his individual score 62 Karnataka took full control on the game and denied Assam to win the tie.

Wasiqur took just 41 balls to score 62 runs with the help of four boundaries and same number of over boundaries. Rajjakuddin remained not out on 53 runs and he hit 2 boundaries and four sixes. The duo on sixth wickets added 52 runs. Pallav Kumar Das (23) was the other major contributor for Assam.

Earlier invited to bat, Karnataka scored 169-6 in their 20 overs. Manish Pandey (74) was the top scorer in the innings. Among the bowlers of Assam Abu Nechim Ahmed (2-32) was the most successful.
