Special Correspondent

SILCHAR, April 26: Karnendu Bhattacharjee, ex MP and former district Congress committee president, who was also present at the function addressed by the transport minister Ajit Singh, went for high praise of rendra Modi Government for starting services on the newly laid BG track between Silchar and Lumding. To begin with, as he said, the run of goods trains with essential food items for this valley and the states of Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura and also to meet the FCI demands for public distribution system (PDS) augurs well. He was hopeful passenger trains too would start soon.

His remark sent ripples among the Congress leaders and workers. Many of them were taken by surprise and gazed at one of them in dismay. It was no doubt not to their liking. But, none stood up to protest. They had to chuckle and also looked puzzled. However, the audiences clapped and applauded at what Bhattacharjee said. The former MP did not stop here. Continuing, he said that though Manmohan Singh, as Prime Minister, had declared Silchar-Lumding BG project as a tiol project, it did not make any headway. Rather, there was mounting criticism from people in general and travelling public in particular about the tardy progress and even raised questions about the utilization of funds in a transparent manner.

Karnendu Bhattacharjee further said to the grin and shock of the present Silchar district Congress president, Arun Dutta Mazumder, irrespective of party affiliations, rendra Modi deserved appreciation for clearing all the logjams created by the infamous politician-bureaucrat-contractor. He also removed all hurdles posed by the transport lobby active to frustrate the project.
