Kashmiri rights activist released from jail

Srigar, Nov 30: Kashmiri rights activist Khurram Parvez, arrested in September for allegedly inciting violence in the Kashmir Valley, was set free on Wednesday following a court order. Parvez was lodged in a Jammu jail after he was arrested on September 16 under the Public Safety Act (PSA). The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Friday said his detention was illegal and ordered his immediate release. He was kept in jail even after the court ruling because there was an error in the arrest warrant. This was rectified only on Wednesday. Parvez was arrested a day after being barred from boarding a flight to Geneva where he had to attend a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council. (IANS)
