Kasimpur adopted as model piggery village

LBARI, April 3:  Under the tiol Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) scheme, sponsored by the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, lbari adopted Kasimpur in lbari district as a model piggery village with a view to encouraging scientific rearing of pig. The KVK, lbari has decided to provide improved cross breed variety of piglets to hundred families of the village. Initially, piglets were provided to 40 families in a function held at KVK, lbari recently. The Director of Research (Veteriry) under the AAU, Dr Apurba Chakravarty distributed the piglets among the beneficiaries of the village. Dr Chakravarty said the scientific piggery culture would bring more fincial benefits to the poor villagers of Kasimpur. He called upon the beneficiaries to take animal rearing as an avenue of self-employment in the agri-based lbari district. The meeting conducted by Dr Mridul Deka, programme coorditor and chief scientist of lbari KVK was addressed by Dr Jayanta Goswami, professor of Veteriry College, Khapara. Dr Suren Sarma, Subdivisiol Veteriry Officer, lbari also spoke in the ceremony.
