Kejriwal requests PM, Javadekar for treatment of elephant injured in Tangla

MANGALDAI, May 21: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has reportedly expressed concern over the seriously injured wild tusker who has been battling for its life since May 18, and requested Prime Minister rendra Modi and Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar for providing treatment to the tusker.

A badly-injured eight-year old wild tusker has been battling for life since May 18 at a remote village along the India-Bhutan border in Udalguri district. The injured wild tusker was very weak while entering Ganesh Ghat, a remote village near Majuli tea garden, with two other wild elephants on May 18. Villagers could see several injury marks on its body and blood was seen oozing out from a deep injury on its forehead. Uble to cross a small stream, the tusker fell down.

The matter was reported to the forest department of Udalguri and a team of forest personnel along with Dr S Sarma arrived at the spot on the morning of May 19. The veteriry doctor tried his best to treat the tusker but there was no positive response. Senior Mager of Noipara and Majuli tea garden also offered support but nothing more could be done. According to attending veteriry doctor Dr S Sarma, the tusker developed septicemia and had gone to coma stage after the fall. The incident has drawn worldwide attention in social media. Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in his persol tweet requested Prime Minister Modi and Environment Minister Prakash Javedkar for the treatment of the tusker. President of Udalguri District Jourlists’ Union, Jayanta Kumar Das and president of Green Valley Forest and Wildlife Protection Society, Udalguri, Anta Bagh have expressed deep concern over the incident and requested forest and district administration, Udalguri for immediate arrangement of better treatment by experts.
