Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) To Restore Earlier System of Teaching Assamese

GUWAHATI: The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has conceded to the demand of the Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) for the restoration of the earlier system of teaching Assamese in the Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in the State.

The AXX recently set a three-week deadline for the KVS to restore the earlier system of teaching the Assamese language, doing away with the oddest new system of teaching the language before or after regular classes.

At a press conference organized by the AXX here on Thursday, the KVS’ Guwahati Region Deputy Commissioner Chandradwip Neelap informed the reporters about his organization’s decision to reintroduce the earlier system of teaching the Assamese language in the Kendriya Vidyalayas across the State. He said the official letters in this regard have already been sent to all principals of Kendriya Vidyalayas in Guwahati informing the KVS’s latest decision.

In order to impart compulsory health and physical education every day from Class-I to Class-XII, the Kendriya Vidyalayas in Assam recently almost decimated the teaching of the Assamese language. Students learning the Assamese language were asked to attend the class after or before the regular classes. The AXX strongly opposed it and compelled the KVS to reintroduce the earlier system.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has welcomed the KVS’s initiative to include Assamese language teaching in the curriculum of Kendriya Vidyalayas. A communiqué issued by the CMO on Thursday evening stated that in view of discontinuance or stopping of Assamese subject teaching or other regional languages in the Kendriya Vidyalayas across Assam and the resultant direction of CM Sonowal to the Education Department to take up the matter with KVS, the authority took decision to incorporate Assamese language teaching in KVs.

On other hands, the AXX on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Chairperson of Central Board of Secondary Education demanding the introduction of Assamese and other ethnic languages in all CBSE schools in Assam at least up to the Classes X and XII. The memorandum was submitted through the regional director of CBSE, Guwahati region Kishore Kumar Choudhury.

AXX (Axam Xahitya Xabha) president Paramananda Rajbongshi told reporters that all government employees (both Central and State) working in the State must learn the Assamese language. He thanked the KVS for restoring the earlier system of teaching Assamese in the KVs.
