KHADC chairman to resign today

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, Oct 25: The chairman of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Manstudy Nongrem along with Deputy Chairman Donevan Kharwanlang will resign from their respective posts on Wednesday.

According to sources close to Nongrem, the duo decided to quit after the Congress withdrew their support to the KHADC Executive Committee (EC) led by suspended member Pynshngainlang N Syiem.

Sources informed that on Tuesday both Nongrem and Kharwanlang informed Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Dr DD Lapang that they wanted to quit from the posts of Chairman and Deputy Chairman.  Sources further informed that the two made up their minds to quit after they realized that they are not in a position to convince fellow Members of District Council (MDCs) to support them in the House. Nongrem in the last week had stated that the posts of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Council has been elected by the House and not only by the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDF).
