KHADC chief calls on Governor

SHILLONG, Jan 5: KHADC Chief PN Syiem along with his Executive Members (EM) today met Governor V Shanmugathan and requested to give assent to KHAD (VAD) Bill at the earliest.

He also discussed about the nomited MDC which was approved by the KHADC.

“We have expressed that after the Governor had given his assent on the JHAD (VAB) the people residing under the jurisdiction of the KHADC are also eager to see that that the bill here also gets the assent,” KHADC CEM PN Syiem told newsmen after meeting the Governor at Raj Bhavan in the city on Tuesday.

He said the Governor told them that since the KHAD (VAB) was sent to the Home Ministry he will not be able to take any decision on the bill until it is being sent back to him.

“We have urged the Governor to remind the Home Ministry to speed up the process in assessing the Bill,” he said adding that they have also discussed regarding the nomited MDC.

“We have told the Governor that the Assam, Meghalaya District Council Rules 6 and sub rule 2 clearly states that if the District Council is willing then they can propose a me for the nomited MDC post,” he said.  

He said that based on rules 6 and sub rule 2 they have nomited MDC in the KHADC house.

 “We have done things according to the rules and theses rule have been approved by the past Governor in which even the government has given its consent,” he said.

According to him, they have proposed a me of a person who has no links with any political party but someone who has a strong knowledge about law.

“On the floor of the house we had passed a unimous resolution and this was appreciated by all the people even those outside the District Council,” he said.
