KHADC sets two-week deadline to resolve issues of Myntris

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, April 3: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has set a two weeks’ deadline to settle the difference that has cropped up between two groups of Myntris of Hima Mylliem.

According to Lamphrang Blah, Executive Member in-charge Elaka, the issue has been lying unresolved for more than a month now since the Dorbar Pyllun (gathering of the myntris).

“As of now we had three sittings to deliberate on the issue. Since we were busy with the preparations and holding of the Monolith Festival, the matter could not be resolved,” Blah said.

The Executive Member in-charge Elaka, however, said that it will sit again now since the Monolith Festival is over.

KHADC, Executive Member in-charge Market Hadrian Lyngdoh informed that the Hima Mylliem cannot decide to lease out markets to any party without the consent of the district council.

Moreover on the issue of renting out of spaces to non-tribals in Iewduh (Bara Bazar) who also use it as their dwelling place, Lyngdoh said that the Market department of the KHADC has informed the Hima Mylliem that it should immediately look into the issue.

The Executive Member in-charge Market has warned that failure on the part of the authorities of Hima Mylliem to take action against such people staying in Iewduh the KHADC will have to issue show-cause notice.

During the Dorbar Pyllun, 28 Myntris had demanded the removal of Syiem (Chief) of Hima Mylliem, Latho Manik Syiem for his alleged embezzlement of the Hima’s finces. The meeting (Dorbar Pyllun) was held at the order of the KHADC following the receipt of a complaint from the 28 Myntris that no Dorbar has been held during the tenure of Latho Manik Syiem.
