SHILLONG, April 1: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC)’s decision to suspend C  Lyngdoh, the Sordar (Traditiol Village Chief) of Tynring, a village located in the prime area of the New Shillong Satellite Township, has received adulation from the Synjuk  ki Seng Longkmie, (federation of Tynring women council).

The Sordar CA Lyngdoh was suspended on alleged mis-governce and misuse of power during his tenure, even as a section of the residents of Tynring came out in protest against the KHADC suspension order.

The Synjuk ki Seng Longkmie, Tynring  not only endorsed the suspension but exposed the alleged malpractices of the Sordar CA Diengdoh along with his cohorts. The allegations against the suspended Sordar varies  from issuing the power of attorney to an individual to sell 100 acres of community land in New Shillong satellite township, siphoning of the money under the MGNREGS and the schemes under the centrally sponsored Total Sanitation Programme.

Terming the support of a section of the villagers as a ploy of the suspended Sordar to mislead the innocent residents, President of the Synjuk ki Seng Longkmie , P Kharmuti told newsmen in Shillong on Wednesday that the Sordar has issued  the power of attorney to an individual identified as Marshall Nongrum to sell the 100 acres of community land in the New Shillong satellite township without the knowledge of the Village council.

“We came to know about this through the RTI filed with the Mawrynkneng Block Development Office”, stated Kharmuthi, adding, “ There has been no Village Council meeting since 2011 and the decision the issue  such a power of attorney is in contravention of the Khasi traditiol practices on matters pertaining to  disposition of the community land.” She said that such an arbitrary decision by the Sordar will affect a number of farmers who are depending on the community land.

The Women superior of the Village also stated that the papers available does not indicated the buyers of the land but the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) has started surveying the land.

Hurling further accusation against the suspended Village Chief for siphoning public money, The women leader said, “The RTI findings revealed on how the Sordar has draw off the money of the thirty odd (30) beneficiaries under the MNREGS”.

“We have lodged an FIR on this. So is The Block Development Officer, Mawrynkneng but our suspended Sordar is out on an anticipatory bail”, the President of the Seng Longkmie, added besides pointing at the other alleged misappropriation relating to the centrally sponsored Total Sanitation Programme.
